Quick Twitter Do’s And Don’ts For Internet Marketers

As we all know Twitter has become an enormous presence on the social media landscape. Since it is fairly easy to use and understand, everyone seems to have jumped on the bandwagon. I’m sure you’ve noticed that even the celebrities have gotten involved. Though, among the internet marketers, there is still not a clear picture as how best to incorporate it into business. Therefore I will attempt to give you some guidelines, or some twitter do’s and don’ts, to make your experience as successful as possible.

Do’s

1. Tweet useful or informative content.
Now this might sound obvious but you’d be surprised with the kind of nonsense that people tweet about. I’m all for tweeting about some cool article or neat piece of info that you found, but don’t tweet random quotes all day and nothing else, or random pics that you find just to have something to say. The idea behind using twitter to build your business is to show others that you are worth doing business with, so share things that they would want to know.

2. Follow tweeters who are worth the follow
I bet that when you first started using twitter you simply followed everyone you came across. Don’t be shy, most people did!The problem is, how many of those you followed back actually cared about what you had to say?This is why it’s important to follow people in your niche or target market, such as those interested in mlm or making money from home. I like to use things like search.twitter.com or twello.com to find twitter users in those areas. Then you’re tweets will be more likely to be read and not simply ignored.

3. Remember to RT others
RT simply means to retweet something that another user has already tweeted.It’s an easy way to get noticed because people enjoy seeing their tweets retweeted. But don’t abuse the RT feature to the point that you aren’t coming up with your own content.

4. Tweet regularly
You should tweet at least 3 or 4 times so that people know you are active. You don’t want your followers to forget who you are or think you are not a serious marketer. On the flipside however, you don’t want to tweet everything you do minute by minute because then people will just start ignoring you.

5. Have a catchy profile and photo
If you want to be taken serious than please fill out your profile section so that people can know a little more about you. Plus, remember to put in a good, smiling photo that is consistent with your other social media sites. This will help solidify your brand across the board. I tend not to follow people who haven’t taken the time to change the default photo.

Don’ts

1. DM with a link to your site
I know a lot of people do this and think it’s great but in my opinion it’s simply annoying. I’m fine with sending an auto direct message to welcome your new follower but make it about them not about you. This is usually your initial contact with them so don’t scare them away by being to pushy.

2. Being overly self absorbed
Twitter is a place to meet and share with others, therefore you have to interact people. If you never reply to anything then you are essentially having a one way conversation. Plus people will probably not pay you any attention if you never join the conversation.

3. Posting only links to your site
Now it is absolutely ok to post links to your site occasionally, but if its going to a squeeze page don’t post your links all day long. If you have a blog you can post a link to an interesting article but make sure you say what the article is about. Otherwise no one will know why they should check it out.

4. NO foul language
Once again you would think this is obvious but I have seen people using cuss words and I think it’s very unprofessional. Just think, if you are trying to market your brand, please be on your best behavior

5. Don’t forget to be personable.
This is social networking afterall, so remember to be social. Let others get to know you.While there’s no need to tell people everything about yourself, you do want people to know that you are a real person that they can get to know.
